JINNAH

I saw this brilliant movie today, JINNAH. I had been waiting for a long time to watch it, and I finally did today. It was awesome. Times were much simpler then. The politicians used to come infront of the general public when it came to answering questions. Now-a-days, they only come infront of the press ppl with conditions of not touching on the topics they dont want them to touch. The politicians are becoming more and more distant, and more and more evil.
We need to read about history more often than we do, and learn lessons from it. Muhammad Ali Jinnah was a down-to-earth, faithful, and a strong-willed man with a vision. He did not divide India... he saved the Muslims and gave them a safer place to practice what they believed in.
What would he have said, if he were alive today?
Stanley Wolpert on Jinnah -- "Few individuals significantly alter the course of history. Fewer still modify the map of the world. Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation-state. Mohammad Ali Jinnah did all the three.”

The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.

The Bystander Effect

Description
When there is an emergency, the more bystanders there are, the less likely it is that any of them will actually help.
Pluralistic ignorance is where they assume nothing is wrong because nobody else looks concerned.
Bystanders go through a five-step process, during each of which they can decide to do nothing.

Notice the event (or in a hurry and not notice).
Realize the emergency (or assume that as others are not acting, it is not an emergency).
Assume responsibility (or assume that others will do this).
Know what to do (or not)
Act (or worry about danger, legislation, embarrassment, etc.)

Example
A famous case occurred in the early 1960, where Kitty Genovese was attacked and eventually murdered over a 45 minute period during which 38 people witnessed the attack and did not lift a finger to help in any way.
This was caused partially by social proof, whereby when people are uncertain, they look to other people as to what to do. It can also be caused by people losing themselves in the crowd and assuming a smaller share of the responsibility, expecting others to help in their stead.

MY INCIDENT

I actually found a loophole in the bystander effect. That is: If you have the knowledge of bystander effect, you would not let it happen!!!
I was in the bus today and a lady stepped in and asked everyone if they have change for a dollar. Everyone either looked indifferent to that or was looking at other ppl. Now, out of 10 ppl wat r the chances no one would have 4 quarters? (Stat students - calculate it!)I knew what was happening.. in the end the woman would have to put the dollar in the fare box instead of 50 cents because no one would respond. The "bystander effect" was taking place right infront of me. But you see, i already HAD knowledge of it... so wat would u do if u have knowledge of it? U would ACT! I said "yeah i might have it" (change for a dollar) coz i really did have it.

(You can tell this is a PSYC student talking!)

MY Beautiful BEAUTIFUL Bag!

I got a beautiful calligraphy done on my SCHOOL BAG by a very very talented brother! I think Islam awareness week benefitted more to Muslims than to non-Muslims this time. Alhamdullilah non-Muslims actually benefit a great deal from it every year. Every little thing we do counts. And this was a big thing for all of those who have been working hard for it. But I wasnt there most of the time so dont take my word for it. lol... Any hoo! i got this calligraphy done on my bag and now i take this bag with me everywhere! :D For those of you who cant tell the letters... i've made colour coded lines in the second pic. I guess u must've guessed it by now. lol. The way i usually used to keep my bag on a chair when i reached msa office was its back to the outside, but since then, i've been keeping it face out. :D i love it so much. Am i being too proud? But its not my creation i'm flaunting about.. just my bag and someone else's talent :D loll.
I think Persian/Urdu/Arabic and Chinese written languages are itself an art. Everyone should know atleast one of them.
